The history of the koto is old in Japan. The original model appeared in the Yayoi period (300BC to AD300), and it is said that people played it for rituals. In ancient times, stringed instruments were taken as noble and valued for religious services.

Origin of Shamisen
Shamisen came from China to Okinawa in the late 14th century and later to Osaka in the 16th century, and biwa-lute priests started to play it. Shamisen was repeatedly transformed by players to make various sounds to express emotion, and the style and music have been developed in a wide range. Now shamisen represents as one of national string instruments of Japan.
